CISPA’s World of Words literacy committee is assisting the 9th Grade English Department in creating a Writers Workshop for students one morning in early May. We are soliciting parent volunteers or parent involvement in finding professional writers to conduct a workshop at CDNIS. There would probably be three 80 minute sessions, with 3-4 different workshops going on at once. The entire 9th grade would rotate through these sessions in small groups with the goal of ending the morning with a start on several different writing pieces.
The topic of these workshops should/could come from the writer themselves, with the input and guidance of Upper School English Department Head Jennifer Root. All types of writers are welcome to submit ideas, including journalist, children’s book writer, short story writer, songwriter or TV/movie script writer, business writers, etc. Additionally, it would be great to find writers who are not only good speakers, but also comfortable in a school setting working with 13-14 year olds. Teachers would be present to assist the speaker during all the workshops.
If you are interested in being a workshop presenter or if you know other writers who might be, please contact World of Words Chair Tammi Williams (phone: 6391-4257).
